2006-05-22 A job-reference gives it only once

After termination of the employment-contract, each employee has the right to a written job-reference. There it is to differentiate between a simple and a qualified job-reference.

The simple job-reference provides information about the employment-contract and its duration. It implies a job-description as well as a description of the area of responsibility. Furthermore possible transfers or promotions are specified and the company is presented.

In the qualified job-reference are specified detailed information about the employee. It is comprehensively to describe the assignment, the area of responsibility and possible advanced trainings, also the qualified job-reference implies a fair evaluation of the performance including an analysis of the strengths and an analysis of the results from the employee. A further aspect is the description of the personality and the behaviour in the company as well as the internal acceptance. Additionally the reason for the termination of the employee-contract is to appoint. So potential new employers can recognize fast the core-competences of the employee.

It is important that the qualified job-reference must issue only on demand. If the employee wish not explicitely such a job-reference, maybe only a simple job-reference will be issued. After its receipt the right for a job-reference expires. A simple job-reference should only be selected, if the employer would rightly write things into the job-reference, which the potential new employer should not know. If wrongly facts are described not right, the employee can bring a job-reference action in court.

Mainly it is necessary that a job-reference should be detailed, because only a detailed job-reference give the chance for new, continuative perspectives on the job-market.
